752 Samco and Die Cut

Samco or Die tooling is the most popular type of tool we use at Presspahn, ideally suited to thinner insulation, it can be made into complex shapes with holes and creases. Made from CNC formed cutting rule inserted into laser cut wood board, die tooling can be made with punches for holes and complex shapes.

When to Use

When the solution requires small volumes of insulators with cut-outs or holes in thinner materials such as Presspahn, Formex, Hostaphan.

Advantages

Cheap and quick to produce tooling
Can cover a large amount of shapes and sizes
Setup time low
Run speed good on small batches

Disadvantages

Cannot cut rigid laminates
General Tolerance of +/- 0.5mm is not suited to some solutions
Limit to how fast it can be run
Can quickly wear out requiring full remake.

Cost

Ranging from £80 for a small simple shape with a couple of holes to £250 for a complex or multi part tool.
Small Samco – 100 to 250 per hour max
Large Samco – 50 to 150 per hour max

Timescale

5 Working days for tooling + 2 Weeks for test and production.
